On occasion, a CAS assessment specialist may request the services of special consultants. Though rare, this occurs when testing and/or interviewing give rise to data about problems that are beyond the focus or precision of the tests CAS uses. Additional expertise is useful in situations where there may be cognitive problems, psychopathology and/or cultural issues.
When using outside consultation, the special consultant serves as a member of the CAS assessment team in addition to, not in lieu of, our assessment specialist and clinical interviewer.
Costs for such consultation are extra. As such, we present the facts to the judicatory in advance of bringing on a consultant, discuss the issues and costs and receive judicatory approval for the additional expenditure before proceeding with the special consultation.
